Dec 21 – Dec 28: Chilly Critters: Animal Winter Secrets

Dec 29 – Jan 5: Winter Warriors: How Humans Beat the Cold

Winter has arrived at the Fraser River, and we invite you to celebrate the season at the FRDC’s Winter Discovery Days. Things calm down at this time of year but there’re lots going on under the surface! Peek into the hidden happenings of winter where some species slow down… and others are hard at work!

*Please note that the Centre is closed on December 25 and January 1.

WHAT:

  • Dec 21 – Jan 5:
    • Create a drawing of your winter wish and it might be turned into a light display in the FRDC’s front window!
    • Drop in for some seasonal facilitated activities every day between 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm.
    • Delve into the winter wonders of life in the cold with self-guided activities throughout the building.
  • Dec 21 – Dec 28: Chilly Critters: Animal Winter Secrets. Get ready to bundle up like a critter! You’ll discover how animals stay toasty without jackets or sweaters—feathers, fur, and all! Then, after storytime, put your creative skills to the test by making your very own ‘animal coat’ to keep your furry friends warm! Plus, bust some myths about hibernation and migration as you create your own migration postcard to send from your imaginary animal adventure!
  • Dec 29 – Jan 5: Winter Warriors: How Humans Beat the Cold. Tackle the ultimate winter survival challenges! You’ll take on the Fraser River House Building Challenge, where you’ll build pit houses and plank houses. Then, get hands-on with some chilly experiments, making a snowman (even if there’s no snow!) and creating a snow jar. To wrap it up, you’ll learn how to prepare for winter storms by putting together a Winter Grab-and-Go Kit—because being ready for anything is the best way to tackle the cold!
