PHOTOS OF THE FRASER

Since time immemorial, the Fraser River basin has shaped the history, environment, industry, and cultures of this region. From the Rocky Mountains to the Salish Sea, the 1,375 km stretch of the Fraser River is home to almost 3 million people, each with their unique views of the river. *Click* Photos of the Fraser aims to bring together a collection of these points of view and invites photographers to submit photographs that capture the life of the river and the basin. This year, the Fraser River Discovery Centre is excited to extend collaboration with the New Westminster Photography Club and invites them to contribute to this year’s exhibit!

This exhibit explores the dual interpretation of its title, “The River: Far & Close”. We invite submissions of photographs that capture the essence of distant subjects, not just landscapes, but also human, wildlife, boats, and other intriguing scenes of the Fraser River observed from afar. We also encourage stunning close-up photographs, showcasing the richness and intricate details of the Fraser River, and highlight the small yet significant details that often go unnoticed. This juxtaposition invites viewers to appreciate the diverse beauty of the river and the basin, whether seen from a distance or up close. We aim to highlight the connectivity fostered by the Fraser River, which serves as a vital link between distant places and our immediate surroundings. Through this theme, we celebrate the relationships and journeys that rivers facilitate, reminding us of the interconnectedness of our world.

Photos are submitted to one of two categories: The River From Afar and The River Up Close. A jury drawn from New Westminster’s cultural sector has selected fifteen photographs to be displayed at the FRDC. These include the winning photos for each category and the People’s Choice winner, selected by members of the New Westminster Photography Club.

We hope you enjoy this year’s edition of  *Click* Photos of the Fraser!
