Halloweekend: Strange Things on the Fraser 

Something strange is happening along the Fraser River… 

Salmon are turning into zombies, animal eyes are glowing in the dark, a plant has started eating insects, and a snake appears to have two heads! Explore some of the strangest animals, plants, and adaptations found along the Fraser River. Use your investigative skills to uncover the science behind these unusual transformations that help Fraser River species find food, avoid predators, and survive changing conditions.  

Record your findings, piece together the evidence, and see if you can uncover the mysteries of the Fraser River! 

WHAT:  

• Explore how bats navigate in the dark. 
• Investigate why some animals’ eyes appear to glow in the dark. 
• Discover the unusual changes salmon undergo during spawning.
• Examine an owl pellets. 
• Complete your field guide to uncover the truth behind the strange transformations happening along the Fraser River. 

WHEN: October 24th, 25th, 10:00am – 4:00pm; October 31st, 10:00am – 4:00pm  

Facilitated programs:

• Owl CSI: 10:00am – 4:00pm 
• Echolocation Investigation: 10:00am – 4:00pm   

WHERE: Fraser River Discovery Centre, 788 Quayside Drive, New Westminster, BC

COST: Included in admission to the Discovery Centre. Admission is free for members. Specific costs are listed below:   

• Family Ticket ($20.00) – for 2 adults and up to 4 children    
• Adult Ticket ($8.00) – adult 19 and older    
• Senior Ticket ($6.00) – senior 65 and older    
• Student Ticket ($6.00) – student ID required    
• Child Ticket ($5.00) – children aged 3-12    
• Children 2 and under register for free.  

Caretakers are asked to remain with their children for the duration of their visit.
