Runoff Race!
Spring in the Lower Mainland often means heavy rainfall combined with melting mountain snow, continuing a cycle of flooding that has shaped the Fraser River basin for thousands of years. Many First Nations along the lower Fraser share oral histories from the end of the last ice age, recounting floods far larger than anything witnessed in the past two centuries.
As flooding becomes more frequent and unpredictable with climate change, how can we redesign our communities to keep people and places safe? Join us this Super Weekend to test out your urban design skills with our stream table! We’ll model river processes on a stream table, and design more resilient buildings, bridges, and roads.
WHAT:
- Model how a river shapes the land using a stream table.
- Explore traditional and industrial methods of flood risk management.
- Design flood-smart infrastructure.
WHEN: February 21st – 22nd, 10:00am – 4:00pm
