HONOURING DR. BRIAN RIDDELL, CEO, PACIFIC SALMON FOUNDATION
Join us for an evening of celebration in honour of Pacific Salmon Foundation President/CEO Dr. Brian Riddell’s induction into the Fraser River Discovery Centre’s Fraser River Hall of Fame.
Dr. Riddell has led the Pacific Salmon Foundation since 2009. The Foundation is an independent, non-governmental organization dedicated to creating a sustainable future for wild Pacific salmon and their habitat. In this role, he has successfully raised millions of dollars in funding to support community-based salmon conservation projects and directed the Foundation as it evolved into a leading science-based organization also. In the past decade, Dr. Riddell led the development of the largest ecosystem-based study of Pacific salmon in the Salish Sea, marine waters that are largely driven by the Fraser River.
Prior to joining the Pacific Salmon Foundation, Dr. Riddell worked for 30 years in various scientific research and management positions with the Government of Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Riddell was a scientific lead in the creation of Canada’s Policy for Conservation of Wild Pacific Salmon.
Among numerous professional distinctions, Dr. Riddell serves as a member of the Royal Society of Canada’s Expert Panel on Ocean Climate Change and Marine Biodiversity. He is also an appointed Canadian Commissioner to the Pacific Salmon Commission, the body formed by the governments of Canada and the United States to implement the Pacific Salmon Treaty. Most recently, Dr. Riddell was chosen as the 2018 recipient for the Larry Rutter Memorial Award by the Pacific Salmon Commission.
